2013 Message from the Board of Directors:

JMLF is a family foundation that seeks to achieve its mission through effective philanthropy that engages family across generations. In 2012, JMLF began a strategic planning process to evaluate its impact and to identify options for the future that will continue to inspire the next generation of family Board members. This planning process is still underway and will continue until the Board has fully determined its focus for the future, at which point an announcement of next steps will be made. We expect this process to be completed within the next two years. At all times, the JMLF Board remains true to its fundamental commitment to honor the legacy of John M. Lloyd and to contribute in an effective and efficient manner to improving our world and empowering the marginalized.

JMLF highly values its grantees and the outstanding work they have done over the past years, and we regret any uncertainty that has been created by this assessment process. The Board is intent on ensuring additional positive impact in the fight against HIV/AIDS during the remainder of the transitional period. In this spirit, we believe that one of the greatest needs facing AIDS organizations is unrestricted operating support. Therefore, we wish to announce that JMLF is simplifying its grant structure, offering a single unrestricted general operating support grant to valued strategic partners that advance its mission to impact the root causes of AIDS. JMLF will not solicit or accept new proposals during this period, but will make Board-directed decisions to invest in a few partners who have demonstrated their exceptional value in impacting policy and advocacy of behalf of people with AIDS, with an emphasis on social justice and human rights. These one-year grants will be made by June 2013 and possibly again in 2014. We are confident that these grants will continue to advance the battle against HIV/AIDS during this transitional period.

We thank all of our grantees and other partners for their patience during this transitional period.
